The only reason I don't upgrade to CS4 is because I can't save in flash 8, and so if someone is hosting a collab and needs it in Flash 8 format then it makes it really difficult. If everyone would convert to CS4 then I would be happy to do it, but the majority of the animation community still uses flash 8.

Which is ridiculous, considering more than half of the animation community pirated flash 8 to begin with. Would it be so hard to do teh same with cs4?

Problem with owning a legit version of out dated software is because... well, it's outdated. You're not going to get the support you would if you had CS4.

Problem is, a lot of "purists" bash CS4 for some reason (it's usually really lame and irrelevant), and refuse to upgrade. Then these same people wonder why their software doesn't run flawlessly.

^^this. I also can stand sending a person a flash CS4 file and them being like "Says wrong version". Everyone just upgrade to cs4.

cs4 is great, 3d, bones, modular interface, motion presets, etc etc.

Why.

1.) I'm so used to CS3. CS3 imo was perfection.
2.) They tried way to hard to make it like a 3D program. Yeah, the new features are nice, but when you're so used to animating in 3D programs like I am, trying to use the same pseudo-3D-tools in a 2D application just doesn't work. The "Inverse Kinematics" is a joke, and is quite buggy.
3.) The so called "Motion Editor" is nothing like a 3D graph editor.
4.) They tried to change the interface way too much. Putting the timeline on the bottom? The fuck? I like my timeline where it's always been thankyou. Nevermind the layout presets that I could easily switch to but am too lazy.
5.) I hardly animate in Flash anymore anyway, so NOT using CS4 is not really a big deal. But when I DO animate, I stick with CS3.

I just don't understand why people wont upgrade. It wont make you a better animator, no, but it will help a lot more than an outdated version.

I beg to differ. I'm willing to bet any of the great animators can make just-as-awesome animations in older versions. For example, I'm pretty sure Miccool still uses Flash 8, but I could be wrong. 90% of the animations are basic lines moving across the screen. It doesn't take fancy motion blur effects to achieve that. When the other 10% start using effects like masks and blending effects, I can see your point. But those kinds of things are still available in older versions as well. The ONLY other reason I can see for upgrading to a newer version is for updated Flash Player versions. But then, that's only necessary with effects-intensive scenes anyway.

Tell me one thing that you can do in CS4 to animate stick figures that you can't do in previous versions...
