Hey. I felt like making a news post.

Anyways, Jeff and I have been talking about the flash game integration with the forums and he came up with a nice API that prevents editing scores with Firefox extensions through some awesome encryption. I just wanted to let you all know that you can expect to be (maybe) beta-ing some test games here soon. I'm going to make a couple tomorrow, not actual games but just little applications for testing purposes and maybe we'll have everyone test it when we think it's good for public eyes.

The games you play will transfer any score you total up to your SLP. We're also going to do item transfers too. So, find an item in game and it will be transferred to your inventory on the forums for actual use. Or maybe we could have some decisions. For example, you find an item in game that you can use in-game OR in the forums and it's up to you to figure out which one could potentially lead you to more fortune. Let's say the item is a key. If used in game, the key unlocks a hidden area full of SLP that can be collected and transferred to your forum account. But if you transfer the key to your forum inventory before using it in game, you won't really know what to expect. The possibilities are endless!!

Justin, what if the in game item is an item I've seen on the forum and I already know what it will achieve if transferred to my inventory? Well, just like you wouldn't know what they key does in your forum inventory, you wouldn't know what a Scratch Off does in game. Hope I'm not confusing anyone, but these ideas are really cool to me.

If you guys have some ideas to throw around for potential games, item ideas, whatever, let us know!

This sounds awesome,
but keep in mind, alot of flash games are REALLY easy to hack. ( Edit scores, SLP or whatever.)

But assuming you have encrypted the games,

DO IT.

That's the thing though. Jeff came up with an API that prevents any kind of editing and it works. :)

At first it will just be SL Staff only, until the method and API is perfected or at least in a state that allows outside users to use it without risking security.

After which point you will need to apply for a Shiftlimits Developers account, which will let you, via a user control panel option, request an application ID, which will be your game's unique ID for interacting with our servers. You can manage your IDs from the user control panel, and you cannot create a new one until the old one is submitted to the Hub when that is released.

Through the same interface on-site, you will be able to make your own achievements, and set a maximum amount of SLP allowed to be earned from your game each day (this is to stop people from making secret rooms that give the infinite SLP, and if we notice people doing this, they will be banned and their game deleted). I haven't decided how I'm going to go about doing items yet, but that will come in due time.

Users without a Developers account will be able to use a restricted version of the Shiftlimits API to track their SWF files, kind of like MochiBot, except this will give you the ability to stop your SWF from playing (a la JCTML) if it's being hosted offline or on a website other than what you specify.
